A lovely walk today from Marple along the Peak Forest canal, through Barlow Wood and along the River Goyt past the Roman Lakes. We had good weather again and great company.

Despite the weather forecast we had a great walk today and stayed dry. From Northenden Riverside Park, along the Mersey and through Kenworthy Wood. We even managed to temporarily adopt a dog . We finished off with drinks and some had cake in the lovely Common Ground coffee shop at the finish of the route.

We had a fun filled evening at our Summer Social. Bingo, a quiz trail, ditloids, dingbats and an origami butterfly to make. Well done to the winning team. Nibbles and fruit punch were on offer. Thanks to everyone involved in organising but especially to Jane and Chris.

Another interesting speaker at our July meeting. Mel Paige, one of the editors of The Stockport Post, spoke to us about her life as a Steward on a super yacht. A very entertaining evening, completed with cake and a raffle.

Happy Birthday to The Heatons WI, 17 years old this month! We celebrated witb Jerusalem; scones, jam and cream; a special raffle; plants and a craft sale, not forgetting, naming the elephant! We were entertained by Steven P. Taylor, a performance poet from Bury, who read from his works and judged our poetry competition. We also handed a cheque to our chosen charity, Stockport Without Abuse. It was accepted by Sue, one of the charitie's Trustees. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Tonight's meeting was very lively and interesting. We enjoyed a talk about Stockport Foodbank and members were thanked for their very generous monthly donations. We discussed and voted unanimously in favour of the Resolution; we had some lovely posies entered into the competition and we enjoyed our usual cake and a raffle.

A lovely walk today from Portland Basin in Ashton, along the Peak Forest Canal, the River Tame and the Ashton Canal. It was very warm but the cafe at the end was very welcome.

This evening we had a talk from Consultant Medical Herbalist, Barbara Wilkinson. Our competition was to produce a baked article containing herbs. We thanked our retiring Programme Team, and enjoyed cake and a raffle.

We had a great first walk for the new year with sunny, blue skies. A bit chilly and icy in places but we managed to get round with no mishaps. A coffee and a chat in Rocksalt was the perfect ending.

The Heatons WI held their Christmas Party this evening. We celebrated with Festive food, a string quartet, carols led by our choir, a REINDEER DRIVE, a Christmas reading and a monster raffle! Thanks to the Committee and everyone who helped. HAPPY CHRISTMAS, see you all in January.

Our walk today took us from Debdale Park, along the Ashton Canal, through the Moravian Settlement and back to Debdale. An interesting walk with a history lesson included. And we didn't get wet-again!!!

Another lovely walk with good company and great weather. We walked to Fletcher Moss along the river Mersey, through the park and back along the tram footpath.

At our monthly meeting we had a talk by Dr. Rachel Holt, a consultant plastic surgeon specialising in breast reconstruction. The comments members made were that she was inspirational and they had found her presentation thoroughly enjoyable.
Our monthly walk took us from Chorlton Water Park along the river, through Chorlton Ees and back along the river. Good weather as it wasn't too warm and it didn't rain. Good company as always.

Members of Culture Club had an interesting tour of Victoria Baths in Manchester today. We were told about the history and the three pools, Turkish baths, bathing and laundry facilities. Lots of events are held there as well as being used for filming of TV programs, Peaky Blinders, and films. Blossoms used the baths to film their latest music video. It is well worth a visit for the stained glass windows alone.

Our July meeting saw the return of barrister turned author Simon Michael. Simon described his rise from working class boy in East London to a QC and gave us some entertaining insights into the traditions and idiosyncrasies of the Inns of Court.

Craft group had a great time on Thursday evening getting messy and sticky when most of us tried our hand at decoupage for the first time. Great results with some still a work in progress.

This evening we welcomed a truly inspiring speaker, Figen Murray. She spoke movingly about her campaign for MARTYN'S LAW, in memory of her son, who was one of the 22 people who died in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. Kate was awarded the trophy for the most competition points gained during the past year.
We also had some delicious cake, a raffle and a Trading Table.

At our February meeting we enjoyed an interesting talk on the history of Manchester since 1980, by Andy Spinoza. Andy brought copies of his book, MANCHESTER UNSPUN and judged our Manchester poetry competition.

One of our most popular speakers was Carl Austin-Behan, the youngest mayor in Manchester City's history and the first openly gay mayor. He was an interesting and entertaining speaker and his story was very thought provoking and informative.

Ginspiring Women had a lovely evening at Stockport Gin. We had a talk by the owner Paul about the history of gin and his company, which he owns with wife Cheryl. We also got to taste samples of all their gins and had a drink on arrival and after the tour.
